CERTIFICATION ABHRS/IBHRS
Dear Doctor:
I am corresponding on behalf of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery/International Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS/IBHRS) Board of
Directors to invite you to visit our website to explore the benefits of certification in the area of Hair Restoration Surgery at
www.abhrs.org.
The ABHRS/IBHRS would like to offer our Examination for certification on May 19, 2010 at the Hotel Quisisana in Capri, Italy (to be held in conjunction
with the Italian Society for Hair Restoration Annual Congress on May 20-22, 2010 hosted by Piero Tesauro, MD, PhD, President).
In order for the ABHRS/IBHRS to travel to Italy to hold its Examination for certification, there would have to be sufficient interest from candidates.
There are only 30 seats available for our Examination, and the ABHRS/IBHRS is accepting applications on a first come, first served basis. If you are
interested in challenging the ABHRS/IBHRS Examination, the ABHRS/IBHRS will require a deposit of $1,000 from you on or before January 7, 2010 in
order to reserve a seat. The deposit will be refunded if there is not sufficient interest to hold our Examination. In addition, you must complete
and submit an ABHRS/IBHRS Examination Application with ALL required documentation and examination fee of $1,200.00 on or before March 1, 2010.
Please note the requirements for an AMA/AOA Physician Profile and for the CME credits are not applicable to you. All applications must be reviewed by
the ABHRS/IBHRS Credentials Committee in order to determine if the application for certification is approved or denied.
Please refer to our website in order to determine your eligibility for certification; see _ABHRS/IBHRS Application Guidelines_ where an Examination
Application can be downloaded along with a credit card payment form and Approximate Percentages of Content on the Written Examination. See also
_Application Forms_ for criteria regarding Surgical Log Requirements and Suggested Reading List for purposes of study. If you need a translator for
the Examination, you may provide one at your own expense, but the translator may not be a doctor.
Your membership in the Italian Society for Hair Restoration illustrates your interest in the field. We hope you will choose to pursue ABHRS/IBHRS
certification. Recognition of Diplomate status of the ABHRS/IBHRS demonstrates the highest standards of training, knowledge and experience as
determined by a process of peer review and standardized examination and certification. While there is currently no ABMS certification specific to hair
restoration, the ABHRS/IBHRS is the only certification recognized by the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery, the largest hair
restoration educational organization in the world.
The mission statement, goals and objectives of the ABHRS/IBHRS are to act for the benefit of the public to establish specialty standards and to
examine surgeons' skill, knowledge and aesthetic judgment in the field of hair restoration. The board will grant certification to candidates who meet
the highest standards of the medical profession in the field of hair restoration surgery.
Very truly yours,
Peter B. Canalia, J.D.
